Justice BURKE delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion:

Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, the defendant, Ricardo Harris, was convicted of the first degree murders of Dipak Patel and Ambalal Patel, the attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery of Christina Chisnick, and the aggravated battery of Helen Chisnick. At a separate sentencing hearing, the same jury found defendant eligible for the death penalty...
