Defendant appeals by leave granted an order of the circuit court denying his request for the appointment of appellate counsel to pursue an appeal of his guilty-plea conviction of armed robbery, MCL 750.529. Although the court ultimately reversed its decision and granted defendant's request, we conclude that the circuit court's denial of appellate counsel and its reasoning are contrary to the United States Supreme Court's decision in Halbert v. Michigan...
