The defendant, Duane Manzanares, was charged with murder in the first degree, section 18-3-102(1)(a), C.R.S. (2005), and assault in the first degree, id. section 18-3-202(1)(a), on August 5, 2005, in Pueblo County District Court. The crimes were alleged to have been committed on June 1, 2005.
