ORS 131.125 (2001)1 sets out the limitation periods within which the state may commence criminal prosecutions. One paragraph of that statute provides that, at the latest, the state must commence a prosecution for third-degree sexual abuse either within four years of the abuse or, if the victim is under 18 years of age when the abuse occurs, within four years of the victim's eighteenth birthday.
