COWIN, J.

A Superior Court jury convicted the defendant of burglary and armed assault in a dwelling, armed assault in a dwelling,1 armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. The Appeals Court, concluding that there was insufficient evidence to support the verdicts, reversed the judgments. See Commonwealth v. O'Laughlin, 63 Mass.App.Ct. 805
