Dmitri Vail, an artist, died in 1991, and Nancy Vail, his widow, was appointed independent executrix of his will and estate. According to appellant Bernard Dolenz, Dmitri Vail had pledged paintings from the Dmitri Vail trust as payment to Dolenz for legal fees.
