Following a jury trial, defendant was convicted of first-degree assault (ORS 163.185), two counts of second-degree assault (ORS 163.175), first-degree criminal mistreatment (ORS 163.205), and menacing (ORS 163.190), all arising from defendant's repeated torture of her husband. After the close of evidence, but before closing arguments, the trial court twice—first, for six days, and then for an additional 21 days— continued the trial to accommodate...
