Nearly a decade ago, the plaintiff, Virginia P. Foley, suffered a stroke that rendered her unable to live independently. Because she believed that numerous health-care providers gave her negligent care and were responsible for her condition, Ms. Foley brought this medical malpractice action against St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island on August 17, 1999.
