The defendant, Deandre Laroy Brokenberry, was charged by bill of information with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:95.1. Following a bench trial, he was convicted as charged. He was sentenced to serve a prison term of 10 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence and was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000. The defendant now appeals.
