A Jefferson Parish grand jury returned an indictment charging the defendant, Edward C. Patterson, with aggravated rape, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:42. The defendant pled not guilty at arraignment. After a hearing, the trial court granted the State's motion to introduce, pursuant to LSA-C.E. art. 412.2, evidence that defendant had previously been convicted of simple rape.
