On August 19, 2002, Lennis Bernard was operating a 1993 Chrysler Concord automobile in the left lane on the Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette. Christopher Guilbeau was traveling in the same direction in the right lane in a Dodge truck owned by his employer, Dubroc Engineering, Inc., and insured by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company (State Farm).
