The plaintiff, Brian E. Farmer, obtained a $1.5 million judgment (the Brady judgment) against an insured of the defendant Country Mutual Insurance Company (Country Mutual). Farmer then obtained a judgment for $100,000, plus costs and interest, against Country Mutual for its failure to defend its insured (the Country Mutual judgment).
