Frutoso Gomez Machuca was indicted for rape and aggravated battery. A jury found him guilty of rape and not guilty of the battery offense. Machuca was sentenced to life in prison for the rape. He appeals from the denial of his amended motion for new trial, asserting that the evidence was insufficient to support his conviction of rape and that his trial counsel rendered ineffective assistance.
