Presse Mathews, Jr. pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon, see 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). The district court determined that he previously had committed three violent felonies and, as a result, sentenced him under the Armed Career Criminal Act, see id. § 924(e)(1).
