This case is before us on a reservation and report, without decision, by a single justice of this court. The petitioner is the stepfather of an eleven year old child (whom we shall refer to by the pseudonym Sharlene) who was admitted to Baystate Medical Center (Baystate) on September 11, 2005, with critical injuries.
