On March 25, 2005, plaintiff Lincoln General Insurance Co. (Lincoln General) filed this statutory interpleader action pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1335 alleging that multiple claimants were asserting claims for the same insurance policy funds. In the course of the proceedings, however, this action metamorphosed from a typical interpleader involving competing claims to a stake to a single claimant's ERISA
