On June 14, 2003, David Leonard, an unlicensed driver, collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Gail Sankadota. Ms. Sankadota's pregnant daughter was killed in the accident and Ms. Sankadota was seriously injured. Mr. Leonard was charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 1111(a), 1153(a), and 113(a)(6), respectively.
