Efrain Garcia-Gonon was charged in a one count indictment with transporting illegal aliens, knowing or in reckless disregard of their status as illegal aliens, in violation of 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a). A jury found Garcia-Gonon guilty, and the district court1 sentenced him to 24 months of imprisonment, 2 years of supervised release, a $2,144.00 fine, and a $100.00 special assessment.
