The defendant, Joyce Marie Handon, was charged by bill of information with one count of aggravated battery, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:34, and pled not guilty. Following a jury trial, she was found guilty as charged. She moved for a new trial and for a post-verdict judgment of acquittal, but the motions were denied. She was sentenced to six years of imprisonment at hard labor, to run concurrently with any other sentence she might be required to serve for...
