Sammy Knox is serving a life sentence for racketeering. The predicate felonies include drug offenses. He was a leader of the El Rukn street gang, which among its other unlawful activities distributed large quantities of cocaine and heroin until a series of prosecutions decapitated the organization. Knox's initial convictions and life sentence were vacated because of prosecutorial misconduct, see United States v. Boyd,
