After the defendant, Tracye Knight, entered an Alford plea to three criminal charges, the district court imposed consecutive prison sentences, citing as one reason the defendant's lack of remorse. The court of appeals vacated the sentences, holding the district court had improperly considered Knight's lack of remorse and failure to apologize for his conduct. This court granted further review.
