In separate indictments, appellant, Donald Sparks, was charged with the felony offenses of murder of Deborah Lauren Alexander (Lauren), and aggravated assault of Samuel Keith Thompson (Sammy).1 Appellant pleaded not guilty to the charges before a single jury, which found him guilty of both offenses.
