A jury convicted Calvin James Mitchell ("Mitchell") of second degree murder and attempted manslaughter. After Mitchell filed a motion for a post-verdict judgment of acquittal, the trial court reduced the second degree murder conviction to manslaughter. Mitchell received concurrent sentences of fourteen years at hard labor for the manslaughter conviction and six years at hard labor for the attempted manslaughter conviction.
