In November 2000, a grand jury indicted defendant, Jesse James, with attempt (first degree murder) (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 9-1(a)(1) (West 2000)) and aggravated domestic battery (720 ILCS 5/12-3.3(a) (West 2000)). After a February 2003 trial, a jury found defendant guilty of both charges. At a joint hearing in April 2003, the trial court denied defendant's posttrial motion and sentenced him to consecutive terms...
