Justice KNECHT delivered the opinion of the court:

In May 1982, defendant, Sherman Gibson, was convicted of home invasion, rape, deviate sexual assault, burglary, and felony theft. Ill.Rev.Stat.1981, ch. 38, pars. 12-11(a)(1), 11-1, 11-3, 19-1, 16-1(a)(1). He was sentenced to concurrent terms of 45 years in prison for home invasion, rape, and deviate sexual assault and 7 years in prison for burglary.
