In 1986, the defendant, Cleo Douglas LeCroy, was convicted of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of robbery with a firearm and sentenced to death for one of the murders.1 After exhausting his state-court remedies, the defendant filed a § 2254 petition challenging his convictions and death sentence.
