On December 6, 2001, Cowart was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, having a blood alcohol level of .10 or greater, and negligently causing the death of Ronald Robinson, an offense commonly referred to as "DUI manslaughter," under Mississippi Code Annotated § 63-11-30.
