The defendant, Toby L. Maten, was charged by bill of information on October 24, 2000, with three counts of attempted first degree murder in violation of La. R.S. 14:30 A(3) and 14:27. On November 2, 2000, the defendant was appointed counsel and, after waiving formal arraignment, pled not guilty to each count. The defendant filed a motion to suppress a confession he made to the arresting officer and a motion to quash the indictment based on a speedy trial...
