Derrick Douglas was charged with second degree murder. The state agreed to allow the defendant to plead guilty to manslaughter with a minimum sentence of 30 years at hard labor and no portion of the sentence to be suspended. The court imposed the maximum sentence of 40 years at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence. Defendant appeals his sentence as excessive.
