Jerry Mack Carter ("the husband") appeals from a judgment of divorce that, among other things, awarded alimony to Betty Sue Carter ("the wife"), awarded the wife approximately one-half of the husband's retirement benefits, and awarded the wife attorney fees.

The parties were married in 1973 and they separated in July 2001. The parties have no surviving children. The husband filed the present action...
