James Carter appeals from the sentence imposed on him after he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, 18 U.S.C. § 371 (2000), and eleven counts of wire fraud, 18 U.S.C. § 1343 (2000), in connection with home mortgage loans made through Carter's loan brokerage business. The loans were based on falsified applications that overstated the value of the homes. Carter's sentence of 18 months' imprisonment...
