Stephen Jessup was a candidate for Sheriff of McIntosh County in the November 2, 2004 general election. He lost to the incumbent, Charles "Chunk" Jones, by 36 votes. Jessup subsequently filed a petition to contest the election, asserting that there were sufficient irregularities to place in doubt the election results.
