In the words of the district court judge, "This case has a long and tortured history." At root, it was once a suit based on federal and state laws guaranteeing various rights to fair housing. At this point, however, all that is before us is the district court's order requiring the plaintiff, her individual lawyer, and the law firm that represented her to pay the defendants' attorneys' fees and costs.
