G.H. ("the father") timely appeals from an award of custody of his daughter K.V.H. ("the child") to K.G. and Y.G. ("the maternal grandparents"). We reverse and remand with instructions.

The child is the daughter of G.H. and L.G.H. ("the mother"). The father and the mother, who were never legally married, separated when the child was four or five years old. The child lived with her mother after her parents' separation until her mother...
