The district court imposed sanctions on appellant attorneys Edward Theobald, Anthony Pinelli, and Alan Brunell for improperly seeking appointment as Special State's Attorneys and fees in state court after the underlying case had been removed to federal court. The attorneys — in conjunction with Cook County, which the district court ordered to file an appearance — appeal. We reverse and vacate the sanctions order issued by the district...
