In these appeals, we consider the denial of a defendant's motion to suppress certain statements he made to the police before being advised of his rights under Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436, 86 S.Ct. 1602, 16 L.Ed.2d 694 (1966). The central issue we resolve is whether a suspect detained at the scene of a traffic accident was in police custody for purposes of the Miranda rule after the suspect was placed...
