Melissa Hamilton Ferguson was indicted for felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, and concealing the death of another. She pled guilty to concealing the death of another and proceeded to trial on the remaining charges. Ferguson was convicted of cruelty to children and acquitted of felony murder by a Decatur County jury.
