The defendant, Juan Curtis, appeals his convictions for first-degree murder and armed robbery. We conclude that the trial court erred in excluding evidence that another person had confessed to the crime. Although the confession does not meet all of the technical requirements of the declaration against penal interest exception to the hearsay rule, it was admissible in evidence as a matter of constitutional law.
