Opinion by Justice ROSS.

David Russell was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault1 and one count of escape.2 He pled not guilty to the aggravated assault charges and guilty to the escape charge. A jury found Russell guilty of all three offenses. For these convictions, the jury assessed the maximum punishment available for the enhanced offenses: three life sentences.
