A jury convicted Kyle Cavaness of premeditated first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit premeditated first-degree murder, and aggravated kidnapping. The trial court sentenced the defendant to life on the murder conviction, a consecutive term of 123 months' imprisonment on the conspiracy conviction, and a concurrent term of 165 months' imprisonment on the aggravated kidnapping conviction.
