CARTER, Justice.

Defendant, Willie Williams, appeals from his conviction of first-degree theft in violation of Iowa Code section 714.2(1) (2001). He contends that the district court erred in failing to grant his motion for judgment of acquittal and in failing to instruct the jury that theft by deception requires a specific intent to deceive.
