When the new Mayor of the City of Providence decided to cut payroll costs, one of the positions he selected for elimination was the Superintendent of Automotive Maintenance Division. Stephen Day, a politically active former head of the Providence Firefighters Union, held that position, and was terminated. Mr. Day, the Plaintiff in this action, believed the elimination of his position was not about saving money...
