Eighteen year old Victor Bruce was indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury for the murder of Earlyn Class, a thirty-five year old woman with whom he had had a brief stormy relationship. The murder was alleged to have been committed on September 10, 1999, when Bruce stood at the back door of Class's house in Everett and fatally wounded her by firing four bullets through the window of her kitchen door.
