Appellant Tonya Denise Clemons was tried by a jury for causing serious bodily injury to her six-year-old step-son T.G. by shooting him with a pistol in his back as he knelt to pray on October 17, 2001. During trial, Appellant pursued an insanity defense, which the jury ultimately rejected upon its determination that Appellant was guilty as charged in the indictment.
