On June 9, 1994 the defendant, Walter Goodwin, Jr., was indicted for the first degree murder of Jonathan Craig Thompson. On February 9, 1995 a twelve-person jury found him guilty of second degree murder. The court denied his motion for new trial on July 11 and sentenced him to life imprisonment without benefits of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
