Danuta Lacaze was employed by Alliance Compressors, Inc. (Alliance) as a machinist in Natchitoches, Louisiana. As a machinist, she was required to lift objects weighing forty to sixty pounds. On November 11, 2000, she was involved in an on-the-job accident which resulted in an injury to her right shoulder and right upper arm.
