Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Tazewell County in May 2001, defendant Alan W. Breedlove was convicted of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(1) (West 2000)). In August 2001, he was sentenced to 50 years' imprisonment. Upon imposing sentence, the trial court admonished defendant in accordance with Supreme Court Rule 605(a) (188 Ill.2d R. 605(a)), which required the court to inform a defendant that...
