The appellant, Michael A. Lindsey, pled guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), a violation of § 13A-12-212(a)(1), Ala.Code 1975. The trial court sentenced him, as a habitual offender, to serve a term of ten years in prison. See § 13A-5-9(a)(1), Ala.Code 1975. It then suspended his sentence and placed him on supervised probation for five years. Finally, it imposed a $1,000 Demand Reduction Assessment Act...
