We have been asked in this case to determine whether, under the provisions of the Maryland Workers' Compensation Act, the Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority (hereinafter "WMATA") was a "statutory employer" of Joao Rodrigues-Novo and, thus, immune from tort liability.
