On October 26, 1999, a St. John the Baptist Parish grand jury indicted the defendant, Charles Stewart, for distribution of cocaine in violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967(A). The defendant was arraigned on November 29, 1999 and pled not guilty. On April 30 and May 1, 2001, the case was tried before a 12-person jury which found the defendant guilty as charged.
